The Governtment Women ITI as GITI (W) T.R.Pattinam was started in the year 1993, and is located about 1.5km from the main road of T.R.Pattinam connecting Karaikal and Nagapattinam. T.R.Pattinam is 7 km from Karaikal,and is surrounded an all three sides by Tamil Nadu and the sea of Bay of Bengal in the East.

Karaikal with a Population of around 1.5 lakhs is mainly an educational hub with 2 medical Colleges (one is JIPMER), 4 Engg Colleges (one is NIT (Py), one Agricultural College, 2 Arts and Science Colleges (one is for Women) one BEd College, 2 Polytechnics (one for Women) and 2 ITI of which GITI(W) is for Women.

Karaikal has good number of Industries and a sea port. Karaikal has rail connection with Electrified traction and is a well connected by Road to Nagapattinam(16km), Mayiladuthurai(38km) and Kumbakonam(60km).

The GITI(W) is one among the 1369 ITIs selected by Govt of India for upgradation & Development among this 7000 ITIs that were in existence in the year 2007, financial supported for repayable loan from the ministry Skill Development & Employement.

A Public Private Society is formed to manage the Scheme under the name & style of “Institute Management Committee” (IMC).

This has 5 Industrial Partners along with representatives from advisory and Government bodies of Puducherry & Lobour Department.

The Chairman of IMC is the President of the “Karaikal Industries Forum”.
